One of the forgotten issues in the federal election campaign is child poverty. The rate is now 17.6 percent in Canada. Meanwhile, the Martin Liberals speak of multi-million dollar surpluses.
Although numerous issues are being debated in this campaign, the major political leaders are still peddling their tax cut program as the best. But Canadians should be sceptical. As Carol Goar writes in the Toronto Star: "Have we forgotten the harm tax cuts did to Ontario schools, hospitals, drinking water and social safety nets."
