In June 2001, a Canadian Jesuit, Fr. Martin Royackers, was murdered in Jamaica, where he had been living since 1994. While the media routinely bombards us with stories about the sorted lives and indulgences of the rich and famous, too rarely do we celebrate the everyday heroism of those who, like Martin, quietly and passionately dedicate themselves to work on behalf of the poor and in the struggle for social justice.
