One of the huge problems confronting modern Catholicism is its failure to embrace the holiness of democracy. For too long we’ve tolerated that old canard that "the Church is not a democracy" –casually dismissing the experience of millions. In the area of sexuality and marriage this has been disastrous. Arrogant and patronizing are other words, which also come to mind.
