A few weeks ago, The New York Times ran a piece on depression. Reporter Susan Gilbert explained that: "Researchers are now constructing more scientific theories to explain why women are nearly twice as likely as men to become depressed."

     Gilbert also wrote that social bias and women’s higher rates of physical and sexual abuse -and poverty- play a role in this higher incidence of depression. But she added that: "Scientists are also studying genes that may predispose girls and women to the disorder."...
