Gore Vidal once wrote that once a decade –usually at the dark of the moon– somebody in America mentions that we live in a class society. His claim is a bit exaggerated, but it raises an important issue.

     It’s baffling that so many people still labour under the illusion that we’re a class-free society. If old habits are hard to break –this one has a ferocious grip.
