MOURNING THE DEATHS OF SIX SOLDIERS

Editorial
The death of six Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan on Easter Sunday was the worst combat loss for Canada since the Korean War.
The fallen soldiers included: Cpl. Brent Poland, Pte. David Greenslade, Pte. Kevin Kennedy, Sgt. Donald Lucas, Cpl. Chris Stannix, and Cpl. Aaron Williams. Our condolences and prayers go to the families and friends of the soldiers. We mourn their losses.
In the aftermath of the bombing that killed the soldiers, questions have been raised again about the disproportionate number of Canadians killed in Afghanistan. With 51 soldiers and one diplomat dead (and 2,545 soldiers now deployed in Afghanistan) Canada’s loss rate is 2 percent. The U.S. (with 311 killed) has 21,000 troops in the country and a 1.5 percent rate. Britain has 52 dead (with 5,600 troops) and a rate of 0.9 percent.
