HERONS, CANDLES, AND DIETRICH BONHOEFFER: TUESDAY’S AFTERMATH

On Sunday night my husband Paul and I talked of an essay we’d read on Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the young Lutheran theologian who participated in the plot to kill Hitler. The conspirators failed, of course, and Bonhoeffer was hanged in Flossenberg prison camp a few weeks before the war in Europe was to end.
