JOHN TORY’S EFFICIENCIES

John Tory was first elected leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party in 2004. Since then, he’s made numerous attempts to distance himself from his party’s Common Sense Revolution –first hatched in 1995.
     But at recent Conservative party policy convention held in mid-February, Tory appeared to be singing an old melody. At the convention he reiterated his pledge to abolish Premier Dalton McGuinty’s unpopular health care tax. Then he proposed a plan to replace that revenue (which is estimated at $2.6 billion a year). "I would not be able to look myself in the mirror as premier of this province if I could not head a government that couldn’t find between 1 and 2 percent efficiencies in a budget of $80 billion," he said.
