ACTS OF KINDNESS

I’ve admired the work of American film director Mike Nichols for some time. From The Graduate to Silkwood his films reflect our times with admirable craftsmanship.

     So when Nichols was speaking about the 1980s in a recent interview my attention was seized.

     Nichols is director of the new film version of Tony Kushner’s play Angels in America. Asked what made the play so powerful, he explained that: "This was one of the rare plays, maybe the only play I’ve ever seen, in which acts of kindness were such a major event. And just that kindness had become like gold in the ’80s -rare and invaluable."…
