TEACHERS TODAY-WHO ARE THEY?
FORMAL EDUCATION, PARTICULARLY in early childhood, is a necessary component in shaping our social fabric, but at this critical juncture in our human history, some of the most powerful educational forces in society are exerted through the mass media. Inevitably, the increasing importance of cultural commodities in the current information-based economy, which include more and more “action-filled” or violence-filled forms of entertainment, helps to foster and reinforce a broadly based culture of violence. Most thinking adults would agree that it is neither desirable nor possible to eradicate all violence from society; but that rising levels, as well as the fear of violence-real or imagined-call for mitigation.

Media violence may be only one of many contributing factors but itis one that, if we choose to, we can ameliorate. Aggression, itself, in its most primitive form is an act of creation that expresses itself in infancy with the birth of a child. It evolves into a force that enables the child to grow and develop.
