Well, I never thought I’d say this –most of my friends would describe me as left-leaning and I’ve long practiced anthropology for goodness’ sake– but I will say it: privatize the CBC. I’m not taking this stance for the usual reasons. It doesn’t bother me that CBC competes with the private sector. In this era of near monopolies, any competition is a positive force, no matter from where it comes. And I don’t stay awake worrying that the CBC is eating up valuable dollars that could be spent on hospital beds, the national debt - or terrorism prevention. With an ongoing surplus in Ottawa’s coffers, the millions sent the CBC’s way aren’t a pressing issue.
