BAMBOOZLED CARVES A PATH INTO THE HEART - IF YOU LET IT
by Maura Hanrahan
It was shut out of the 73rd Academy Awards, but provocateur film-maker Spike Lee’s Bamboozled allowed me to finally begin making an emotional connection to Black culture.
For the past six years I’ve made an annual visit to New York City - a pilgrimage really, since the colours and energy of the Big Apple are nothing less than magnetic. I’ve travelled to Chicago, San Francisco, and New Orleans, too, and now I live in Toronto, another North American centre of Black culture.
