The movie industry is such a vast and unwieldy machine, requiring complex investment deals, guaranteed distribution, advertising tie-ins and so on, it’s difficult sometimes to see how even commercially motivated films get made. It’s even more of a surprise to see a simple story told beautifully with careful, consistent focus on character.
