All around North America, church groups and congregations are organizing around environmental issues, and around climate change in particular. There are prayer and study groups, Earth Sabbaths, and training for church leaders on climate change. Someone has even written a Twelve Step Recovery Program for Energy Addicts. (Step One: “We admit that we are powerless over our compulsive and insistent use of energy, and that our energy use has become unmanageable.”) Church congregations are taking very specific actions to save energy, buy green energy, and lobby their politicians.
